Alan and Jennifer Sault on Datura:
Ornamentation to admire!

Affectionately known as the Lorax House - do not miss this exceptional property! Look for the Lorax and its message to "protect the trees" slightly up the driveway....this welcomes you to the Sault home.

A garden is not a garden without ornamentation to exude the personality of the owner.  Indeed this property arouses interest and awe from the intricate historical tour of British miniatures in the front garden.  Park your car and slowly walk the sidewalk from right to left for this amazing tour of Britain in Southside Village.

Jennifer notes that the family spent several years in Costa Rica where they replanted seven acres of rain forest on a mountain top overlooking Arenal Volcano. After a knee injury Jennifer was unable to walk for a few months and couldn’t plant trees. She began experimenting with mosaics and tiles (which she could do standing on one leg!) Jennifer has continued experimenting over the years at their Datura Street home first making the peace signs and all else followed!

Picturefairy garden
From Right to left along the front property is a fairy garden started several years ago for their granddaughter. Despite outgrowing the fairy garden, Grandma Jennifer is still hooked on personalizing this tiny section of the garden.

A "Bonsai Yorkshire" was inspired by a trip to England where Jennifer introduced her granddaughter to her English cousins.  The village is a reminder of Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire. Nostalgia overtook the family and Jennifer built a couple of cottages on Datura's front walk to remind her of Robin Hood's Bay, one of the family’s favorite places.  The project evolved from there: the village needed a castle and a church (Norman in design...no specific one, just a mélange of a few), of course a pub and finally a ruined abbey.  The castle is modeled after Skipton Castle, Yorkshire, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in England.  The Abbey is inspired by Rievaulx Abbey; but ruined abbeys are all over Yorkshire, thanks to Henry VIII! The pub/restaurant is modeled after the Black Swan, Olstead; Yorkshire (voted the most popular restaurant in the world in an MSN poll!)

Cottages falling off the cliff indicate the constantly eroding coastline and villages once a mile from the sea that have disappeared into the sea.

Little did you know that such history abounds in the Sault's front yard!

PictureCamelot
One never knows the changes and modifications which may be visible on this front yard. Since I last saw the garden Jennifer has added early medieval buildings and a castle to represent Camelot (built for a workshop on her book correlating the legends of King Arthur with chakra development) and representations of the Jewish, Christian and Moslem quarters of the old city of Jerusalem.

After Hurricane Irma the tree clean-up crew voted this property their very favorite in all of Sarasota. A couple from Portugal stopped by to view the mosaic work! Join visitors to the Southside Village Area and don't miss visiting this little gem!
