Who We Are
People who live, work and own property within the following boundaries are welcome to join the South Poinsettia Park Neighborhood Association (SPPNA). We encourage all to become involved and engaged in ensuring the common good of our neighborhood.
We Are NOT an HOA
Homeowners Associations are notorious for strict rules and infighting about what can and cannot be done on your property, such as when and where you can and cannot fly the American flag. That's not us. We are here to represent your interests to city government and to foster community. We have NO RESTRICTIONS on you or your property. We leave that up to your good sense and City, County, State and Federal Governments.

Sarasota is one of the most desirable places to live in the United States, as recognized by a number of National and State media publications. We believe that South Poinsettia Park is one of the most desirable places to live in Sarasota!
In March, 2025, our special neighborhood celebrated it’s 100th Birthday! For More details on our March 2, 2025 Centennial Celebration and Historic Home Tour just select the link HERE
Just a stone’s throw away and within reasonable walking distance from Downtown Sarasota, and only a few miles from the most beautiful beaches in the world, South Poinsettia Park is a charming, historic, and peaceful neighborhood that combines chic and eclectic dining and shopping with walkable, welcoming and family-friendly streets where you’ll always receive a “smile,” a “hello” or a “nod” from your neighbors.
South Poinsettia Park is just south of Southside Village – essentially a quaint downtown on its own – making it easy to find anything you need at a variety of gourmet markets, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, home decor shops and salons of excellent quality – without even getting in your car! The award-winning century-old Sarasota Memorial Hospital is just a block away, and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, recognized as the third of “10 Best Botanical Gardens in the United States” by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Vogue and Southern Living, is right up the street.
The interesting places in or near South Poinsettia Park are magnets for interesting people of all ages and backgrounds – singles, couples and families – full time or seasonal residents alike – who have a sense of pride that fills our community. The 100-year-old highly rated Southside Elementary School is a draw for families who prefer to have their young children walk to school versus take a bus. Residents feel safe taking a pleasant stroll through McClellan Park, along South Osprey Avenue, or anywhere in this tranquil community.
When you live in South Poinsettia Park, you live in a vibrant neighborhood that embodies the spirit of “old-Florida.” As you walk your dog or bicycle on the “Flower Streets,” you will pass historic, modern and contemporary homes built over the last 100 years in a variety of architectural styles, starting in the early 1920’s when John and Mable Ringling fell in love with Sarasota. You’ll see Spanish Colonial Revival and Mission Revival and Mediterranean Revival homes built in the 1920’s and 1930’s by Logan & Currin in and around the sub-district of De Sota Park, Mid-Century Modern homes that pay homage to the indigenous post-WWII Sarasota School of Architecture that started in the 1940’s, Florida bungalows and ranch homes of the 1950’s and 1960’s, and large, elegant smart homes of this millenium – all sharing a position along the verdant tree-lined streets and manicured landscaping of South Poinsettia Park.
South Poinsettia Park residents are fortunate to live in this wonderful Centennial neighborhood located West of Trail. The South Poinsettia Park Neighborhood Association welcomes residents, friends and visitors to join us in celebrating this milestone birthday of one of Sarasota’s premier neighborhoods by sharing our rich and wonderful history and promise of a vibrant future.

We are featured regularly in Stroll West of Trail, a monthly magazine mailed free of charge to households in this and nearby neighborhoods. Some of our neighbors are regular contributors to this magazine, which "connects neighbors and strengthens community ties through engaging stories and meaningful partnerships," as they describe their mission. The August issue, pictured here, features SPPNA's Secretary, Fred Sassen, and his family. Gardening articles by Karen Pariser, SPPNA Complete Streets Chairwoman often appear in the magazine. Stroll's website is located at www.strollmag.com/locations/west-of-trail-fl/ .
SPPNA is not affiliated with the magazine, but we draw attention to this valuable free neighborhood resource because we share the same mission - to foster neighborhood connections and promote the interests of the South Poinsettia Park neighborhood. While our scope is limited to South Poinsettia Park, Stroll West of Trail encompasses nearby neighborhoods as well.
